ABOUT
After a Foundation Course at York College of Art, I trained in ceramics, fine art (B.A.) & then a final year in jewellery. Life had it's own plan though & I diverted into food, running a successful delicatessen for 30 years. After I sold the business, I returned to making art & enjoy working with different and combined media. I also still have a small jewellery set up in my workshop, but failing eyesight means it isn't much used.

In particular, the Yorkshire countryside, where I have lived for the last 55 years, fills me with joy, sometimes melancholy, sometimes despair at the what is being done to it, but always with hope that it will be here for future generations. I have become increasingly interested in the natural world nearby, from the mice the cat brings in & the owls calling behind our house, our resident hedgehog & the visiting fox, all provide me with as much excitement as a safari in Africa. Although close to the city of York our house backs on to a nature reserve and we encourage the birds and other wildlife. I only have to look out of my window to be calmed by the light through the trees and the flittering goldfinches.

I have recently been working on a tree project and this new work will be available from my own studio at York Open Studios 5/6 and 13/14 April 2025

NAME
WORKSHOP

I am lucky enough to have a workshop in my house which struggles to accommodate my mess. Always having a few projects on the go means I'm constantly finding bits of paper stuck to me. My artwork is multi media - I use torn paper, tissue paper, lino prints, monoprints, gold leaf, acrylic paint, ink, water colour and at least 1% cat hair (not intentional).
